But Do You Know What a “Parador” in Spain Actually Is?

Parador Ibiza Events Private Journeys LifeXperiences 2

After more than two decades of planning and construction, the Parador de Eivissa in Dalt Vila finally opened its doors to guests on 10 March 2026 — the result of a total investment of nearly €47 million and over two decades of procedures and works. As the 99th Parador in the network, this establishment represents the evolution of a historic brand that continues to grow through unique projects deeply linked to heritage and the local area — and it is also the very first Parador in the Balearic Islands.

So what exactly is a Parador?

Paradores are hotels owned and operated by the Spanish state, housed in iconic and historic buildings — castles, fortresses, monasteries and palaces — that have been carefully restored and given new life. The concept is a wonderful combination of preserving Spain’s most emblematic estates while making a genuine cultural and economic impact on the regions they call home.

Parador de Eivissa

The Parador de Ibiza occupies the former Almudaina Castle, a strategic enclave within Dalt Vila — Ibiza’s historic acropolis and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — that has witnessed over two thousand years of history, preserving traces of Phoenician, Roman, Islamic, medieval and Renaissance cultures. Positioned at the highest point of the old town, it offers privileged views over the Mediterranean, the port of Ibiza and the surrounding landscape. On a clear day you can follow the coastline all the way to the neighbouring island of Formentera on the horizon.

Step outside and within just a few minutes you find yourself in the charismatic and picturesque streets of the old town, where restaurants, cafés, boutiques and small shops invite you to explore and linger.

Archaeological discoveries

The project involved one of the most significant archaeological excavations in Spain in recent years, alongside the restoration of the castle and Almudaina complex within the walled enclosure. The archaeological discoveries have become the cultural centrepiece of the establishment, with nine exhibits showcasing the findings open to the public, plus a dedicated space for additional artefacts — giving the hotel a genuine museum feel.

Hotel & Art

The hotel offers 66 rooms in total, with architecture and interiors that blend contemporary elegance with natural, local materials. Rooms where white, ochre and clay tones take centre stage sit alongside two restaurants open to the public, and archaeological remains visible throughout the hotel, from the spa and reception to the lobby beneath the Governor’s House. A remarkable collection of contemporary art — paintings and sculptures by local and international artists — completes a setting that feels as much cultural institution as it does luxury hotel.
